Description

This is a cheap way to safely look at the sun through binoculars. You can purchase solar filter sheets fairly cheap and cut them to size rather than having to buy specific-made filters for your binoculars. These are made to fit the Celestron Cometron 7x50mm Binoculars but they could be adapted fairly easily to other sizes. I used M2 screws in the corners, but the holes could be increased to fit M3 screws for a more common size or all 4 sides could be attached with a strip of tape.

You will need to print two frames and two mounts. Once printed, place the mount square side down on the solar filter and trace it with a hobby knife. Read the instructions for the solar filter. Mine requires the silver side facing out. Place the filter onto the mount and place the frame over the filter. Now you can poke holes through the filter where the screws should go. I used a push pin for this. Thread a screw through the hole and cap it with a nut.

Enjoy! Remember to never look at the sun without a filter. You can only look at the sun at totality during a TOTAL solar eclipse!
