Description

As an avid wood turner, I regularly use micro mesh pads in the finishing process to remove the scratches that remain after conventional sanding. Micro Mesh pads are used wet and one of the challenges I found myself dealing with was trying to keep them in the right order and somehow in a position that allowed them to dry after use.

The first solution I introduced was my wet sanding station that coupled a storage area for the pads with a water reservoir to keep them wet and remove the slurry generated during sanding. While many liked the design, there were some that wanted to separate the water reservoir and the pad holder. This was my answer to address that need.

The unit is designed with each of the micro mesh pads having their own cell to call home. Each cell has a floor that is angled towards the center which is open to an area below. This allows the water on the pads after wet sanding to drain away from the pads. To keep dust in your shop away from the pads while not in use, the holder includes the file for a matching top that can be printed. The top is close enough to the top of the pads when in place that they cannot fall out of their holding cells. For the top and base to stay together I added recesses in each corner for you to epoxy in four 2mm x 6mm magnets into both the top and base (for a total of eight). This provides a great hold and allows you to pickup the unit from the top without worrying about it coming apart.
