This rack and pinion system demonstrates the Ackermann steering principle, which I have designed all from scratch in Solidworks. It is my first ever 3D printed design so any feedback would be greatly appreciated.
In the images, you can see that the assembly of the linkages is done with thin metal wires - No clue which metal, it was a clothesline! Furthermore, the ‘screw’ constraining the pinion has a screwcap which is very hard to put on as I left 0 tolerance in the 3D model so if you print it you may want to change the diameter slightly, or sand it down.
In the Bambu 3mf file, the wheels are printed vertically leaving it not to be perfectly round - There is a trade-off with looks vs functionality - If you want a smooth outside print them flat. However, given that they do not spin I would keep them upright.
Improvements to be made:
In the Solidworks model - The mates are completely non-functional to let it be animated. Any help in how to fix it would be greatly appreciated also.
Be warned - The files are a mess.
