What in tarnation is a LeadBed?

LeadBed is a parametrically-designed, Gridfinity-compatible*, stackable, multi-caliber ammo box system.

The goals of this project were to create an ammo box solution that:

  • covers all of your calibers in one design
  • covers all needed box sizes in one design
  • takes up as minimal filament / space as possible
  • is rigid and secure enough to throw in a range bag
  • stacks and arranges cleanly
  • printable without supports
  • caliber is clear from all viewing angles
  • fully 3D printed - no screws, nuts, or magnets needed
  • Gridfinity-compatible*

---

Ok Mr. Fancy Pants, how do I make this thing?

1. Download and extract zip file for your desired caliber

2. Subfolders are organized by grid dimensions. (If you have crippling option paralysis, my favorite is 4x2)

3. Using settings listed below, print one of each: Box.stl, Lid.stl, Holder.stl

4. Insert holder into box, keeping holder parallel to floor, until all four corners rest on box support beams

5. Slide lid fully into slot at top of box

6. Done. Fill with your ammo of choice and enjoy your secure pew pew storage.

---

Hold on there, partner - why the asterisks by "Gridfinity-compatible"?

All Gridfinity-compatible components in this model are designed by hand from scratch, and are not the work of Zack Freedman nor subject to licensure. The base plates are to spec and should be compatible with any other prints. The stackable lid dimensions are to spec, but due to lid design, only encompass one large grid rectangle. 4 squares will fit on top of one 4x1, but 1 square would slide along its length. In an effort to save print time and filament/improve rigidity, height is not standardized to increments of 7mm.
If there is interest in a full-fledged version, leave a comment and I can do so in future iterations.

Printed the 4x4 shotgun shell box in petg on my a1 mini. Shell holder is in red pla off an X1 carbon and lid is in black ABS also off an X1 carbon. Got some warpage on the box base as the a1 lacks an enclosure but I'll give it another shot in the X1 Thanks Mr DSB!

loving the design and simplicity! I've organized about 1/3 of my ammo now using these boxes! coincidentally, the designer and I have almost exactly the same ammo needs! now if I could just get this in a .270 WSM, 7mm, .308, .338 Lapua, 6.5 creedmore and 7.69x54 I'd be set!

Working on filling up my cabinet with these, any way I could get my hands on an editable file to adjust a 4x2 box for 25rd of shotshell? The 22lr cases look great. Doing the lords work out here!

Stoked to hear that my dude. Absolutely - I'll throw the Fusion 360 file up on here, but I can do you one better if you want to let me know what gauge you're wanting, and I can add them into the collection!

Excellent to hear, I shoot a lot of clays so I use 12 gauge 2.75" target load. I keep bringing out way too many boxes and losing track of who shot my ammo so the leadbed would be perfect for that. the 4x2 size or 4x4 sizes would be awesome!

Good news - Added all box sizes for 12ga 2.75"! Also included the master Fusion 360 file if you'd like to play around with it. Bad news - Using the standardized clearance limits, 4x2 / 2x4 will only hold 21 rounds of 12ga. The 4x4 will hold 49, though Thanks again for the feedback and using this - makes my day to know it's getting some use out there!
