Description

I uploaded one of these Drill Dust Collectors a short time ago and I'm always thinking how I can make the design bigger and better and easier to Print.

I got to thinking if it would be feasible to design the collector, handle and back plate all as one piece and design the end cap separately then print the model vertically and then print the end cap, this worked and makes it a better design with only having to glue the end cap on, easy peasy as they say.

This collector has a wider catchment area, the body is 2mm thickness now so stronger and a more ergonomic handle, the alignment arrows are still there as is the chamfer on the hole to deflect the debris into the collector, another bonus is that this dust collector stands upright as well ensuring that the debris stays in the collector if you put it down somewhere until its emptied.

In my opinion an all round better design and easier way to print this model.

Prints as in the print preview screen shot, the slicer did ask for support for overhangs, Ignore this, it prints just fine without any support, it did lay down a small brim which peeled off easily.

Whenever I print I only use the smooth cool plate, I religiously clean with Isopropyl Alcohol after every print and then I use a glue stick to ensure the print sticks to the bed, I let the print cool down and the prints just pop off, this works for me on most models and leaves a nice smooth finish off the print bed, to clean the build plate I just wash with warm water and washing up Liquid and let dry.

Thanks for Looking

print was very good, but the bottom of the handle should lie flat on the bett

Hi, yeah not sure why it did that as I did design it to be flat it was probably the radius I added, I have another dust collector on my page with a bigger hopper if you are interested, thanks for down loading.

I did notice that the handle is not flat against the bed. I thought maybe the whole model was tilted, but it’s just the handle curves up very slightly. I just turned on supports for it and it turned out fine.

yeah I got a great result too, but for printing it would be better if the handle is flat, it's not an deco object so it would be okay if it's more practicable than good-looking imho

lot of stringing and lost bed adhesion in the last 2 minutes (check the line that printed on the air on the 2nd picture.) will clean the model now, but seems ok other than that.

Not sure what happened there, I have very few issues with bed adhesion and there haven't been any other comments about bed adhesion with this model. I tend to use 3D laq with a small foot print model. thanks for downloading the model anyway.

Thanks for replying dear. It's a brand new printer, so I also dunno what may had happened but I am very inclined for filament issue, as everything was only "send to printer" and print on the go. Anyway, your model inaugurated my A1. Thanks.

the little lid piece doesn't quite fit right because of the angle but it isn't even needed so I like it.

The bottom of mine printed out weird. I'm sure it was my own fault for messing with some settings I shouldn't have, but since it still functions 100% I didn't feel like trying to get it perfect.

Very well done. I added one extra wall layer. I didn't need to print with support on my X1C. Used PLA and cool plate with hairspray.

Brilliant! The centre hole could probably benefit from a support tree but brilliant quality and design!
