Description

Note: I made other creatures here, if you want to see more things like this.

Sylvester has always been a walrus of many talents. He has tried several different careers, including private investigator, janitor, and plumber. He was good at all of them, but he never felt satisfied. He always felt that something was missing in his life. He wanted to do something more meaningful and fulfilling. He wanted to make a difference in the world. He wanted to make people smile.

One day, he decided to quit his job as a plumber and follow his true passion: being a goofy silly walrus. He realized that he had a natural gift for making people laugh with his funny faces, jokes, and antics. He decided to use his skills and experience from his previous careers to create hilarious scenarios and pranks. He likes to dress up as different characters, and surprise people with his humor and wit. He became a sensation on the internet, where he posted videos of his adventures. He also traveled around the world, performing live shows and meeting his fans. He made millions of people happy with his comedy and charm.

Sylvester is now the happiest walrus in the world. He loves being a goofy silly walrus, and he wants to share his joy with everyone. He is the perfect companion for anyone who loves cute and goofy animals. Sylvester is ready to be 3D printed and join your family!

Printing Instructions

Sizes

  • Large (recommended): This size will provide for easier assembly, particular with eyes and teeth.
  • Small: This is the original size I designed, and is the smallest I could make him and still have assembly by hand work. You'll want to have a little patience with the gluing of the teeth and eyes, and may want to use a wood glue instead of super glue to help gap-fill.

Settings

  • 0.2 mm layer height should work fine. Ideally with a 0.4 or finer nozzle for details.
  • Supports: Orient the print as shown in the picture… the walrus flippers will need support as shown. I've had good results with tree supports, and excellent results with PETG/PLA dual material supports as well.

Parts

I provide Sylvester in split-out parts to make it easier to color his teeth and eyes differently from his body. There is also an all-in-one 3MF provided, however This can be a little bit of a pain to setup in the slicer. Pick one of the headings below and print the appropriate files:

  • Ready-to-print: a pre-arranged 3MF in Bambu Slicer. Easiest option. Already setup and arranged for you with colors.
  • All-in-one: All the objects in one 3MF… you can color/arrange as you wish. Note that the eye color objects and the eyes will need to be carefully moved together.
  • Separates: Each part is printed separately
    1. 3x pegs
    2. 1x tail part
    3. 1x main body part
    4. 1x each of: left tooth/right Tooth
    5. 1x each of: left eye/right eye
      • note that the eyes are compound 2-part 3MFs to make coloring easy.

Assembly Instructions

A small amount of glue is required to complete the model. I recommend normal superglue, but anything should do. If you have super-glue accelerator, it can help. If printing the small model a small amount of glue that works better at gap-filling (wood glue, gorilla glue, etc) might be better.

  1. Tap the 3x tapered alignment pegs into the main walrus body. You may need to whack them a little with a blunt object to seat them fully. The result should look like this:
  2. Apply glue, and attach the tail end. The alignment plugs should not fully bottom out, but will help you get a good alignment to minimize any gap.
  3. Utilize glue to install the teeth and eyes.
    1. The eye and tooth sockets have tolerances built into them and are tapered to make assembly easy, but it's possible, depending on your printer tolerances, that you might need to slightly resize the teeth/eye parts to fit properly. Thankfully these are small and easy to re-print if needed. Yes, I know i named the parts “toof” .. it's because Sylvester is a silly walrus :).

Very cute. I wish the model has a version with flat tummy so we can print this in one piece instead of glueing the tail to the body.
