Description

Send your loved ones (or not so loved ones?) a horrifically scary Halloween card! This card is a dual print / lithophane card, if you hold it up against a light, or place a tealight behind the card, the print will illuminate (see the attached photos for examples).

This print-in-place Halloween card uses 4 colour swaps to create the lithophane effect, and takes just under 2 hours to print in full.

I have included both card AND print versions of the file. The 'Card' version of the STL and 3MF will have the foldable part included. The ‘Print’ versions will just have the print. Both print and card formats will use the same filament swap instructions below.

Post-Processing

If you are printing the card, the 3MF and the STL files will have a thin middle seam down the middle of the print where you will be able to fold the card in half. It should be thin enough to not need any heating to fold it, but if you find it difficult to fold in half, use a lighter or a blowtorch to slowly heat up the middle seam and carefully fold the print in half.

Filament Swap Instructions

If you do not have an AMS or an MMU, just use a include a pause at each relevant layer and swap out your filament spools.

Print at 100% infill with a layer height of 0.08mm with a base layer of 0.2mm

Filaments Used:

  • PLA Kingroon White Transmission Distance: 8
  • PLA+ eSun Grey Transmission Distance: 1.4
  • PLA Polymaker Starlight Midnight Transmission Distance: 2.5
  • PLA Kingroon Black Transmission Distance: 0.4

Start with White

  • At layer #8 (0.76mm) swap to Grey
  • At layer #14 (1.24mm) swap to Starlight Midnight
  • At layer #19 (1.64mm) swap to Black for the rest.

Important Note: I used Starlight Midnight which is a sparkly dark blue colour. You do not need to use this, and any other dark colour will have just as nice of an effect. Dark Blue, or Dark Red will work really well here too.
