Open source tension meter for GT2 belts based on Prusa gcode
This design is made based on their gcode file with eyeball measuring. Use at your own risk.
STL, STEP , FreeCAD format are availabe for download.
The lite version with small indicator but will act the same as the normal version.
No print setting from Prusa yet, but as I can see in the gcode-file and gcode render
; external perimeters extrusion width = 0.45mm ; perimeters extrusion width = 0.45mm ; infill extrusion width = 0.45mm ; solid infill extrusion width = 0.45mm ; top infill extrusion width = 0.40mm ; first layer extrusion width = 0.45mm ; and 100% infill (or the model too small so there are only walls/perimeters)
Print the part with PETG, if possible use Prusament PETG because they made the model using their filament. Not all filament are the same, other brand(or even same brand but difference corlor) have difference characteristics.
Want to use this tool but don't have Prusament PETG? read the instruction below
Move to toolhead so the distance between the idler and the toolhead is 150mm.
Use guitar tuner or similar smartphone app to measure the sound frequency of the belt. Adjust the belt tension and aim for 110~120Hz.(For android, the app Spectroid is quite easy to use)
The above tuning result is the recommend tension based on Gates's datasheet. Now install the belt tension meter on to the 150mm section belt and mark that sweet spot on the belt tension meter with pen or maker.
Next time when you need to tune the belt, you can use the belt tension meter tool instead of the app. Remember to get the same 150mm toolhead to idler distance.
