Description

UPDATE:

This model has been replaced by version v2 Plus.

After so many people asked me for my Marble Run 003 expansions and I was not allowed to pass them on, I designed this Paddle Wheel Addon. Based on my improved “jump catcher”, there is now a track extension with a paddle-wheel as an Addon, which btw - from my point of view - shouldn't violate the license terms of the original Marble Run 003 model https://makerworld.com/en/models/14265 .

This track is clearly a shortcut and the marbles that take this route overtake all the other marbles. That's why I've drawn it so that not many marbles go that way. Also, the lower part of the track is slightly uphill and then has only a slight slope in order to reduce the rolling speed. On the other hand this can cause the marbles to get stuck, depending on the print quality or the uneven surface. If this is the case, you just have to warm up the lane (serpentine) with a hairdryer and bend the curve down a little.

I would be grateful if you share with me your suggestions and experiences.

Notes:

  • This addon contains small parts. Please make sure that children cannot swallow them.

Print Instruction and Assembly:

  • Please refer to the instructions in the attached pdf.

More control:

Do you prefer more control over marbles that take the shortcut? Check out the “Jump Catcher v1B” with adjustable opening (“sliding door“): https://makerworld.com/en/models/386909

Thanks for the work an sharing! Printed nice with PETG (all new parts in blue). Parts fit well together and the Paddle spins good. Only littler "problem" is, that very few marbles find there way to this new section. I tweaked the “Jump Catcher with Track Switch” a little bit with hot glue which helps a little bit, but I think there should be a light inclination towards the new section too. Maybe a V2 could fix that ;-) Otherwise as mentioned it fits and works great, thanks again!

Hi geoboris. Thank you for your valuable feedback and great rating 😀. It’s intended that only a few marbles take the shortcut. I have tried different versions and thought this version is the fairest. This also prevents two or more marbles from taking this path straight after each other as this would cause a blockage in the paddle wheel. I will design an adjustable opening in the next version and hope to have a solution for a possible blockage in the paddle wheel.

Gave the marble run a new lease of play time with the kids :). Had to fiddle a bit with the fit but works out in the end.

Great add-on. Thanks for doing this! 1 in every 10 balls goes through the shortcut which is perfect!

No problem! I didn’t even realize I didn’t use the V2. lol I’ll check it out, my kids love this marble run especially the challenge of trying to get one to go thru the paddle wheel. thanks for the awesome model! it’s stuff like this that really makes me want to learn CAD myself.
