Description

Is the battery life of your children's Toniebox slowly running out? Or have you ever been on the way to holiday with your children and suddenly the Toniebox is out of power? Then you've come to the right place.

 

I have created a replacement for the battery pack holder so that you can use standard NiMH batteries.

 

What you need:

  • The model is desgined for this battery holder
  • Soldering iron
  • Heat-shrink tubing or electrical tape
  • Optional: 2x M3 flat head screws (8 mm or 10 mm) and 2x M3 nuts
    (The battery holder is already firmly fixed by the model. However, if the Toniebox is handled a little more wildly, the screws guarantee that it will not come loose. Alternatively, superglue or hot glue can also be used.)

What you additionally need if you do not want to reuse the cables from an existing battery pack:

Soldering instructions:

  • If you reuse cabels from original battery pack: disconnect the cables from the battery pack and solder them to the cables of the battery holder. Secure the soldered joints with heat-shrink tubing or electrical tape.
  • If not: solder the red and black cables of the JST PH3 cable to those of the battery holder. Solder one side of the thermistor to the yellow (or white) cable of the JST PH3 cable and the other side to the black cable of the battery holder.

Assemble instructions:

  • Click the battery holder into the printed model.
  • Secure it with the screws or glue if necessary.
  • Install everything analogue to the original battery holder.
  • But in batteries and secure them using the printed clip. Run the cables under the clip so that the thermistor is in contact with the batteries (see the pictures).
  • To change the batteries in the future, only the one screw at the bottom of the Toniebox needs to be unscrewed. Fast and simple.

 

IMPORTANT NOTES:

  • Normal alkaline batteries can also be used. In this case, however, the Toniebox must NOT be placed on the charger.
  • If you want to use the charger, only NiMH batteries may be used! As the batteries in the Toniebox are connected in series, the batteries should not have an uneven charge level when inserted. If necessary, charge with a different charger beforehand. I'm using Eneloop AA (2100 mAh) and Eneloop Pro AA (2500 mAh).

Print was fast and clean. Thanks for this model and the detailed description. Saved me a lot of money and probably much better than the many China batteries available on the internet... Exchange was easy. Used the original cable and soldered it to the battery holder.

Thanks for sharing your make and for boosting! I'm glad you like it. I would recommend to put the thermistor between the batteries and under the clip (see picture 2). This is important so that the temperature of the batteries can be measured during the charging process to prevent overheating.
