Description

This is a fridge magnet that uses three (3) 6x3mm neodymium magnets embedded into the print. Magnetic strength is comparable to other novelty fridge magnets.

At 100% scale, the fridge magnet is roughly 50mm length and width (~2 inches), and 6mm height/depth. There are three (3) holes of size 6.2mm diameter x 3.2mm height used to fit the magnets during the print. Make sure your magnets are the correct sizes.

The top white part of the panda is 1mm high, while the bottom black part measures 5mm high. The three (3) magnet holes start after layer height of 1mm. Imagine the bottom black part containing 3.2mm high holes sandwiched between a 1mm bottom layer and 0.8mm top layer.

Enabling ironing on top surfaces for best results.
Pause printing at layer 4.2mm to drop the magnets in, and color change occurs after layer height of 5.0mm.

Smaller magnet sizes and different magnet types can also be used, but magnetic strength might be diminished, since the magnet is embedded within the print with a 1mm thick layer between the magnet and the fridge. You can carefully test the magnets against the printer nozzle to see if the magnet will stick to the nozzle during print. If the magnet does stick, glue may be applied to hold the magnets down during print.

Pictured magnet printed with 4.0mm nozzle, ironing all top surfaces, 2.00 layer height, 15% infill, print paused at layer 4.2mm to embed magnets, color change at layer 5.2mm, white and black PETG. Nozzle did not attract magnets during printing, so no glue was used in the pictured print.
