A honeycomb organizer that prints in vase mode. Strong, prints fast, and minimal. Inspired by the hexagonal columnar basalt rock structures found on the black sand beaches of Iceland.
Pros:
- Material saving! Minimal material usage as only needs 1 perimeter but can hold things great.
- Quick print! Prints in 2 hrs on a MK3S or Mini
- Useful for Holding! Fits 3 remote controls or a bunch of pens/pencils
- Useful for Calibration! Quickly identify extrusion issues in vase mode. Use calipers to measure wall thickness after print to properly adjust flow rate!
Cons:
- Thin walls. Single walls are print fast, but you might want to print it with a wider nozzle to get more strength. That being said, hexagons are quite strong for their shape and holding size-- that's why bees use them in their hives!
Recommended settings:
- Single perimeter, larger nozzle if possible (0.6 ideally, but 0.4 works as shown)
- Align Seam to back
- Orient the part with the bottom of the holder at the bottom (should be oriented correctly already)
- Scale to your personal preferences-- each hexagon is roughly 65mm in diameter. Can fit a 24mm by 60mm block in cross section, but do your own trigonometry just in case!
