I can't tell... but on the pictures it looks like the star's base is hollow and that it rests on top of the other topper. The slice looks like it's two solid pieces that we'll need to glue together and it would require us to cut off the top of the other topper. Is this latter correct?

Yes, two halves that are glued together. The top is a vase mode with an opening so it fits easily
