Description

This model allows you to magnetically attach a 4-inch flexible duct (sometimes called dryer duct) to the exhaust vent of at Bambu X1C, useful if you need to print foul-smelling materials like ABS or ASA in a space you must inhabit.

  • Two dowel pins fit into the existing untapped holes above and below the exhaust mesh.
  • Adhesive neoprene sheet stock is used to ensure a good seal.
  • The 4-inch flexible duct slips over the part and does not require a hose clamp to stay in place.
  • The model is slightly asymmetrical to fit my setup but it's not too extreme and should be useful to you too.

I made this model to reach a balcony 14+ ft away, and I use a booster fan to help pull the air through the long duct.

Dimensions

  • This part extends perpendicularly from the back panel by 129 mm.

Printing Tips

  • I used Bambu PLA and Bambu PLA Support filaments. This results in a large number of filament changes (14 hour print for me). I used support filament because the magnet and dowel pin holes are printed facing the bed to ensure a good circular shape. You might consider not using PLA Support filament to speed this up, potentially at the cost of a slightly worse magnet fit.
  • You will probably need a 2 mm drill bit to remove the dowel pin hole supports.

Materials Required

Tools

  • Superglue to install magnets and dowel pins
  • Box cutter knife to cut neoprene
  • 2 mm drill bit to remove dowel pin supports
  • Metal ruler to cut neoprene
  • Calipers to check purchased magnets and dowel pins, and to measure and cut neoprene stock
  • Pliers to install the dowel pins

Assembly

  • Install the magnets using superglue. I installed them in alternating orientations, but placing them all the same way should also work.
  • Install the dowel pins using superglue and pliers.
  • Cut 4 mm wide strips of neoprene sheet (3 mm total thickness) of the appropriate length and install.
  • Extend one end of the flexible duct so it is a smooth cylinder and slide it over the printed part. I placed about 3-4 turns of the support wire over the printed part.

I hope this model is useful to you!
