Description

Patternflow — an open-source LED synthesizer you play with your fingertips

⚠️ Photosensitivity warning: Patternflow displays rapidly changing light patterns that may trigger seizures in people with photosensitive epilepsy.

Patternflow is an open-source instrument for light. Four physical knobs reshape generative patterns on a 128×64 LED matrix in real time — a contemporary reinterpretation of Nam June Paik's Participation TV (1963).

This listing is the 3D-printed enclosure (v3.0) — snap-fit design, wall-mount holes, and built-in recesses for the LED panel's alignment bumps, so there's no trimming or post-processing on the panel.

What to print

The print profile is set up for 256 mm beds (P1S / A1 / X1C class), split into plates — print them all. Body plates in white PLA, the knob plate in black.

Got a 330 mm+ printer (H2S class)? The one-piece body — zero bonding, everything in one part — is included in the project, placed beside the plates (left side, unsliced). Drop it on a plate and slice with the same settings. It's also available as a separate STL below.

Raw STL files are also included

Print settings

  • 0.4 mm nozzle, 0.2 mm layers (default P1S profile works as-is)
  • Supports: standard/regular — not tree
  • Brim: off · Aux fan: ~20%
  • Material: PLA (white body, black knobs)

What else you need

This case is one part of a full open-source hardware project (~US$100 in parts): a HUB75 LED matrix, an ESP32-S3 board (open PCB, also available as a PCBWay community project), 4 rotary encoders, and a USB power bank.
