Parametric Wall Hook — 4-part (Pin Hinge, Pull Handle)

A parametric model for MakerWorld: foldable wall hook with a separate, load-bearing hinge pin. Dimensions and ornamentation can be customized online ("Make it Yours"), then the finished files can be downloaded and printed

File: Parametric Wall Hook - 4-part.scad

4 separate parts — all printable flat/standing, without supports:

  • Hook (Arm) — movable arm with a through-hole for the pin. 45° saddle notches on the inside (hanger holder) and a wide, rounded grip finger recess at the tip for folding out
  • Housing (Holder) — accommodates the arm, has two aligned pin holes in the side walls and the solid back wall as an unfolding stop. At the top, a retaining web on the back wall where the closed tip sits flush and lightly snaps in. Simple; snaps into the outer shell
  • Pin — strong, load-bearing axle. Inserted laterally through Housing → Arm → Housing; the ends are covered by the outer shell → cannot fall out
  • Outer shell — thin decorative cover with relief → second color. Snaps over the housing, covers the pin ends, and holds the wall mounting
  • The arm is printed separately and flat (no hinge gap underneath) → the 45° notches and the grip finger recess print cleanly, no spaghetti. The finger recess is open upwards in the print orientation (groove) → fully self-supporting, no supports

    Operating Principle

The pivot point is at the bottom. The hook folds upwards to close (flat into the front pocket) and forwards to open — until a heel rests against the solid back wall of the housing as a hard stop (angle via max_open_angle, standard 60°). A hanging load presses the arm against the stop → the hook does not fold shut under load

Opening: unfold the hook at the lowest point of the pivot by pressing with a fingernail. Optionally, also use the wide grip finger recess at the tip with a fingertip

Retained (closed): two small detent nubs on the housing side walls (detent_*) snap into shallow recesses on the hook sides → soft click. Additionally, the upper retaining web (top_seat_*) holds the tip flush against the back wall. Both retaining forces are adjustable so that the hook can be opened easily

Load-bearing pin hinge: The arm rotates on an inserted pin (pin_d, standard 4 mm) that runs through both housing walls. The pin cannot move out sideways because the outer shell covers both ends

Hanger saddle notches (hanger_notches) are designed as 45° V-grooves and print cleanly in a self-supporting manner

    Adjustable Parameters (MakerWorld Customizer)

    ParameterMeaning
partPull-down: what is output (see below)
    hook_width / hook_thick / hook_lenHook dimensions; housing grows automatically. hook_thick = barrel diameter as well
body_width / body_depthMinimum outer width / build depth (wall distance)
max_open_angleUnfolding angle from "closed" (standard 60°)
    hanger_notches / notch_depthHanger saddle notches (count · depth)
grip_notch_depth / grip_notch_wfracGrip finger recess at the tip: depth (mm) · width as a proportion of hook width. Larger = better to grip
    detent_enable / detent_grip / detent_posLateral detent nubs (keep closed): on/off · holding strength (0.10 smooth-running … 0.30 tight) · height along hook length (std. 0.65)
top_seat_enable / top_seat_grip / top_seat_posUpper retaining web on the back wall: on/off · click strength · start point along hook length
    pin_dPin diameter (load-bearing, 3.5–5 mm)
    pin_play / holder_pin_clearArm clearance · holder insertion clearance
cover_wallWall thickness housing + outer shell
fit_clearPress fit housing↔outer shell per side (0.15 mm)
    snap_protrSnap rib outer shell↔housing
use_shell1 = with decorative shell + snap grooves · 0 = housing circumferentially closed (friction fit/adhesive tape, no grooves)
mount_mode0 = Adhesive tape · 1 = Countersunk screws through the back wall
    relief_*Outer shell surface relief
arm_reliefEngraving on the front of the hook (on/off)

    Printing in Bambu Studio

All parts are support-free and already oriented for printing. Print orientation of individual parts:

    • Hook (Arm) — flat, front side (finger recess, +Y) upwards (the recess is an upward-open groove → self-supporting), the 45° notches (−Y) downwards (print self-supporting). Do not change orientation.
    • Housing (Holder) — back wall on the bed, open front + pin holes upwards
    • Outer shell — back wall on the bed, open front + relief upwards
    • Pinstanding (axis vertical) — see below

The Pin: Print Standing + Brim

The pin is output standingeach layer a clean circle → precise round cross-section = best bearing surface

    • Always enable a brim (otherwise it will tip over). Printing slowly also helps
    • Chamfer at the top = threading aid, flat bottom = bed adhesion

Load vs. layer lines: When standing, the layer lines are perpendicular to the load (uncritical for a 4mm pin). For maximum shear strength, reorient the pin in the slicer (layer lines parallel to the load) — then a slightly less round cross-section

    2 Colors

    • Drag multiple parts onto one plate (or PRINT All on Plate) and assign a separate filament to each object — e.g., outer shell in a contrasting color (carrying the relief), hook + housing + pin in a single color
    • Without AMS: simply in separate prints — no glue needed thanks to press fit/snap

    Recommended Print Settings

    SettingValue
    Printer/NozzleBambu Lab (P1S / P2S / H2C), 0.4 mm
    Layer height0.2 mm
    Walls / Perimeters3–4 (hook load-bearing: rather 4)
    Infill20–40 % (hook/pin higher for load)
    SupportsOFF
BrimPin (standing): recommended, remaining parts optional

    Assembly

    1. Place arm into housing — align arm bore with the two pin holes
    2. Insert pin — laterally through Housing → Arm → Housing (chamfer first). Hinge complete
    3. Press housing assembly into outer shell — slide in from the front: Press fit 0.15 mm/side + Snap. The shell covers the pin ends
    4. Open — pull out at the wide grip finger recess at the tip with a fingertip (releases the lateral detent nubs and the upper retaining web)
    5. Mounting to the wall:
      • mount_mode = 0: double-sided adhesive tape on the flat backside
      • mount_mode = 1: countersunk screws through the two holes in the back wall

    Tips

    • Does the hook fall out? No — the movement is purely rotation around the pin (the clearance is not an escape path), and the pin ends are covered by the outer shell
    • Print without decorative shell? use_shell = 0 → the housing is circumferentially closed (no snap grooves, no thin slots); mounting via friction fit/adhesive tape
    • Bearing too stiff / too loose? Adjust pin_play. Pin difficult to insert: increase holder_pin_clear
    • Stop angle via max_open_angle (standard 60°). Press fit via fit_clear, snap retention via snap_protr
    • Hook too difficult to open? Decrease detent_grip (e.g., 0.10) and/or decrease top_seat_grip. Holds too loosely? Increase both. Position of lateral detent via detent_pos (standard 0.65)
    • Finger recess too small to grip? Increase grip_notch_depth and/or grip_notch_wfrac
    • More load-bearing pin: Increase pin_d — housing/arm automatically grow with it
