Description
Here is a very simple project to cool you down during hot summers in front of your PC
A creative and functional Ice Cooler model, virtually at no cost
The idea is quite simple: use ice to cool the air
Place a 500ml plastic bottle in your freezer (be careful to only fill the bottle to a maximum of 75/80%, otherwise it will explode!) and let it freeze
Insert it into the housing of my Ice Cooler and start the fan
Within a few seconds, very fresh air will come out and give you a very pleasant coolness
And it can work for several hours before the ice is completely melted and loses its effectiveness!!!!
All you will need is:
- 1 120x120mm 12v PC fan
- One 9v battery holder
- 4 screws at least 50mm long
I used this hardware because it was the most convenient for me: however, you can consider USB power, or from a PowerBank, with speed controllers etc etc
It's up to you: my model only requires a 120mm fan; the fan cable comes out from the back of the Case and from there you can do whatever you prefer
Once everything is printed, test the fan contacts connected to the 9v battery pack, so you can check the correct rotation direction of the fan (it must blow air OUT of the Case, not in)
Yes, the fan is 12v and the battery is 9v, but it will work perfectly fine, at a slightly lower speed
Once you've verified this and marked the correct wires, insert the fan wire into the top left hole and bring it out from the back, then connect it to the battery pack
Screw the fan into the case and insert the bottle holder into the Case, making sure the open part is facing the fan
Now, you can insert the bottle and turn it on!
You can also use the cap to better maintain the bottle's temperature, improving performance thanks also to a small “Venturi” effect caused by the small holes at the top from which air is drawn in, which, descending through the spiral, cools down faster
Within a few seconds, you will feel magnificent cool air coming out of your new Ice Cooler!
When changing the bottle, do not forget to check if the water collection tray caused by condensation needs to be emptied (at the base of the Case where the bottle rests)
Happy summer everyone!!!
