Description
ModuCup RX – Modular Cup Holder Organizer & Accessory Dock
Turn one cup holder into a practical and modular center-console hub.
The ModuCup RX is my first fully original 3D-printing project. I designed it to solve a simple problem:
There is never enough convenient storage space in a car once you add a phone mount, charging cables, bottles and other everyday items.
The organizer fits into the center-console cup holder and provides several storage compartments while also supporting a phone holder on a ball joint.
The phone-mount interface uses an M12 × 1.75 thread. The setup shown in the pictures uses a 16 mm ball head, but any compatible ball joint can be installed as long as the thread is M12 × 1.75. This makes it easy to replace, upgrade or adapt the phone mount without redesigning the whole organizer.
A modular accessory platform
The main feature of this design is the large threaded accessory interface.
It uses an M76 × 6 thread with approximately 20 mm of engagement, allowing different accessories to be screwed securely onto the organizer.
Instead of being limited to one fixed configuration, the ModuCup RX can become the base for future modules such as:
- additional cup or bottle holders;
- deeper storage containers;
- small waste bins;
- cable-management accessories;
- custom holders for specific equipment.
I plan to add more compatible accessories over time.
Recommended materials
For permanent use inside a vehicle, I strongly recommend:
- ABS
- PC-ABS
The model shown in the pictures was printed using SUNLU PC-ABS with a generic filament profile, with very good results.
PLA and PETG are not recommended for long-term use inside a car. Interior temperatures can become extremely high when the vehicle is parked in direct sunlight, which may soften or deform these materials.
Make sure all accessories are firmly tightened and do not interfere with the gear selector, vehicle controls or the driver’s field of view.
This model was designed for the 2023 Lexus RX 450 H+ center console shown in the pictures. Compatibility with other model years or vehicles has not yet been tested.
Important note about the STL files
For the moment, I can only provide the model as an STL file, because MakerWorld does not currently accept 3MF projects created with the beta version of Bambu Studio.
The STL may therefore need to be split into separate objects and prepared manually before printing.
For the basket section, I recommend:
- splitting the model around the large threaded interface;
- adding a few alignment dowels or pins;
- printing the sections separately;
- gluing them together after printing.
This significantly reduces the amount of support material required and avoids wasting filament.
I will include a picture of my own build plate to show how I divided and oriented the parts.
Of course, another option is to print the model as one piece with supports everywhere—especially if you happen to have far too much filament!
As soon as MakerWorld allows 3MF files created with the current Bambu Studio beta, I will upload my complete prepared print profile.
Perhaps someone from the Bambu Studio or MakerWorld development team will read this note… one can always dream!
