Description

I loved the concept behind Luke's 3D's original model but it didn't fit my daughter's toothpaste. I also found the model quite hard to assemble as the tolerances were tight and there was little to no horizontal expansion (elephant's foot) compensation built in.

So while I was lengthening the model I decided to make the following improvements:

  • Increased shaft and body length by 10mm
  • Increased tube slot width on the shaft and body slightly
  • Added chamfer to all surfaces that touch the build plate to compensate for horizontal expansion
  • Added a bump on the shaft to prevent the tip from coming out while removing the tube
  • Stiffened up the ratchet arms
  • Improved aesthetics (subjective :))
  • Less post processing is required for assembly

NOTE: You need to remove the support material from the bottom of the main tube in order for the ratchet mechanism to work correctly.

Warning: If you print a third party profile you may not be getting the latest version or the highest quality print.

Works well but not sure how the ratchet is supposed to engage when there's no teeth to engage with, unless I'm missing something. Some assembly instructions would be good.

I had the same issue. Look at the bottom of the tube, it should have a serraded insert, if it doesnt maybe the support filament got stuck there (mine did)

This is great. It is a bit hard to turn at first, but after a little work the 7 year old can use it easily.

I believe you mounted the shaft the other way around, the "spiky" part should be on the right and the flat part on the left so it's flushed. Take a look at the other people's pictures :D

That seems to be mounted the wrong way :) The toothpaste tube should enter the body through the small slit so that it can fully squeeze the tube together.

Was this intended as a throw away item? Can the tube be removed when empty?

My thoughts as well. Great idea, seems to work well but the wratchet won't allow you to "Unwind" the tube so I guess it was designed for ONE USE ONLY?

Some layer delamination on the PETG center rod after print, other than that looked good!
