Description

I got tired of using spool adapters that didn't quite work so I combined the best ideas from what was out there into my own design.

If printed correctly (check out the 3mf files) these are quite strong and will not slip due to the ribs on the inside and outside of the lip.

 

Warning: If you print a third party profile you may not be getting the latest version or the highest quality print.

Printing Tips

Print at ≤ 0.20mm layer height with at least 6 perimeter walls and random seams. I like to use matte PLA because it has a slightly rougher finish.

At this point I prefer the smooth version over the ribbed.

 

Updates

2023-05-11

I've recently received some Overture spools that have a slightly smaller diameter. As such I added “tighter” versions of the spool adapters that have a 0.5mm smaller outer diameter.

2023-04-13

I've added V2 which further reduces the thickness of the outer ring in order to provide ~0.5mm extra space to accommodate wider spools. With this version I am no longer supporting the Overture/eSun specific pegged versions as the lip is just too thin to reliably secure the pegs and in my own use these pegs didn't add any real value.

I've also added the hooks I use on the end of my RepRack to store the extra spool adapters.

Decreased the outer ring thickness and added a chamfer to the outer edges to better support wider spools.

I received some feedback that some users were having trouble with the outer ribs on the adapter so I have added a smooth version as well.

Printed great. I have used this on multiple brands. Altering the size as needed. I have an off-brand that worked best at 99.5% and Jessie PLA from Printed Solid worked best at 101%. For Polymaker it works great at 100%. Much better and easier to use these than re-spooling, which often is a pain and inadvertently causes tangles from time to time.

I tested this print and it prints really fast and its material efficient. It fits well and the design is solid. There is only one downside - in my opinion it is a little bit too flimsy. It is very thin. The machine we print this on costs so much that saving 0.2$ does not make sense. Using another 10g plastic would ensure durability so the same one can be used for probably years.

The thickness is intentional. The original version was slightly thicker and would sometimes rub against the sides causing issues.

Didn't want to use a ton of filament making an adapter for Inland filament and this worked perfectly while barely using any filament!
