I had thought about wire mesh being used for this type of system but I just went with the flow of what everyone was using.
Inspired and motivated by The Newbie Maker youtube channel……he has the same idea to use metalgrid instead of the 3d printed panels. It makes sense!
The metalgrid brings a whole new level of strength to a pegboard system. The panel is metal; everything else is 3d printed.
There seems to be two general size metal grids in hardware stores. Theres 75mm squares with 4mm wire & 50mm squares with 3mm wire.
This is for the 50mm square mesh 3mm wire.
I have designed these parts to fit a metal grid. The metal grid is one that can be purchased in a hardware store.
Reason:
This probably is a niche system, but I have used the Honeycomb Storage Wall and the Multiboard system. There is no need for printing tonnes of panels and putting lots of screws holes in your wall. It was the plastic panels that frustrated me most. This system is set and forget. It's one big panel.
I have designed the brackets for this metal grid and I can say for sure; this is the most solid "pegboard" system I have used. No question!
Granted its not a full 3D printed system...But sure so what? The fun part is making the custom 3d printed pegboard holders for your tools and equipment.
The "resolution" of the multiboard in my opinion is overkill. You dont need so many hole slots. Every 50mm gap would be enough. Look at a standard handheld drill tool on the multiboard; There are about 100 holes in that drill area and only 2 actual holes used to mount the drill bracket.
Benefit:
Metal will always be stronger than plastic. No more panels warping with heavy items. Dynamically add peg holes where needed. Large spool holders only use 2 heavy duty twist-lock pegs for each bracket. Compatible with standard pegboard/multiboard hooks. Easier to install (no need for front and back assembly parts).
Description:
Who could imagine…1 printed part could be a full pegboard system ?? Oh did i mention, it is a standardised metric screw thread. 12mm. Boom; Mic Drop!
