Description

Ironing test for ironing speeds from 15 to 40mm/s and flow from 10 to 50%

 

This is a smaller version for smaller surfaces and/or a faster faster guess. If you are searching for a more accurate print for larger surfaces, my other model is probably better for you.

Instructions

  • on bambu mobile: select your printer, plate and filament(profile) and just hit print
  • on bambu studio: same as above, but if you need to switch your printer, make sure you enable “Advance” in the “Process” Menu before switching printer, or some ironing settings might get lost (depending on your bambu studio version). Thanks to @GianfLab for letting me know!

Notes:

  • Dial in your filament first (flow, pressure advance) or this print won't make a lot of sense
  • Results will be different for different filament types (materials) and often also different filaments, sometimes even for the same brand&product but different color (same as with most filament settings/calibrations)
  • For filaments that tend to blob (e.g. PETG) it might make sense to check for blobbing frequently and/or only print 1 stripe at a time. Having “half-liquid” filament around your nozzle while ironing will affect the ironing result.

holly Molly this absolutely worked for me: this is with Polymaker Polyterra PLA, check out the before and after - I had to put a clip in the frame because my phone couldn’t focus on it it’s so smooth now!!! this is the result of increasing the flow from 10 to 25

Can't tell for sure without further information/screenshots, but one possible cause could be that by changing printer, BambuStudio automatically also changes preset, and you might have chosen "Discard" instead of "Transfer" settings, which would deactivate ironing, if your preset is set to no ironing. Feel free to message me directly. There are 47 ratings, 44 with 5/5, 2 with 4/5 and this is the only one lower than 4/5 so I guess this problem is solvable :)

Absolutely. I ran into this problem and wanted to let you know. Today I discovered a bug in basbustudio that if you don't have the advanced settings activated even if you do transfer it doesn't actually transfer the ironing so it switches to 40 minutes. as soon as the printing is finished, Hoping that it came out correctly, I will give 5 stars because your model is the best there is. Try doing this procedure too and if it happens the same thing to you I recommend you write it in the description because other people could run into the problem and not notice it

Workaround a) Make sure that in Process->Global 1) Quality->Ironing Type is set to "topmost surface", 2) Quality->Wall generator is set to Arachne, 3) Quality->"Only one wall on top surfaces" is set to "not applied" 4) Strength->"Wall loops" is set to 1 5) Sum of Strength->Top&Bottom shell layers is >= 3 Then slice and check if the colors vary slightly (magenta to pink-ish), when you select "color scheme" speed, like you see on the preview image. Workaround b) try if printing via Bambu Handy works. I that works, you at least have your print and you know something is wrong with Bambu Studio..

Helpful for testing ironing/top layer but they are fairly small.

ty! they're meant to be small to be fast and show ironing on small surfaces. you could scale or use my other, larger model (link in description) if you want.

it didn't really work for me, I feel like the are is too small to show any real difference, but maybe that's just me

Hi ! Yes, the results seem to be different for larger/smaller surfaces, or at least there are multiple combinations that look ok/good (almost the same) on the smaller stripes, but there are more noticeable differences are on larger surfaces . Hard to take a photo of all of it with similar light sheen which is why there are 2 pictures. To me it looks like 40% 40mm/s OR 50% 35mm/s are the best. Thoughts? Also, is the stringing unusual? This is sunlu basic PLA after a calibration.

hard to tell just by looking at those 2 pictures, bud i would've said 25/25 if you have a lot of small surfaces / irregular borders, or 40/40 if you mainly have large surfaces
