Description

Overview:

I designed an oriole feeder for a family cabin (https://makerworld.com/en/models/1776380-oriole-bird-feeder#profileId-1891829) that utilizes a mounting system that is secure, doesn’t require any tools and doesn’t require any alterations to the existing railing such as drilled holes.  It has worked out so well, that many have requested cup holders that can be mounted the same way.

I designed a cup holder that threads onto any one of the mounting options used for the bird feeders. The cup holder is oversized and can accommodate larger bottles like ones from Nalgene.  However, I also designed an insert that is similar to a standard vehicle cup holder that fits inside the main holder and is better suited to more narrow cups.

Current Mounts:

Square Bracket Top Mount

  1. Wrap two standard brackets around the top railing and slide to lock them together. Ensure the bolt hole is facing up.
  2. Insert the bolt and tighten fully against the railing to secure the mount in place.
  3. Thread the cup holder onto the bolt.
  4. Insert at least one pin to secure the two brackets together.  Optionally, you can install a pin on each side.

Wide Rail Mount: Our deck rail consists of composite decking on top of the spindles, so I’ve added wider brackets for this style. It works the same as above.

I’ve included my Fusion 360 design files, so you customize them how you wish using the included parameters

You can also design your own base to mount to any surface then attach the cup holder as long as there is a M20x2.5 threaded hole in the new mounting mechanism.

Printing:

I recommend printing these in ASA or something similar for outdoor use. No supports required if printed in the orientation shown.
