Description
"Niedźwiedź" (which means "Bear" in Polish) is one of the most famous and historic Polish icebreakers. Built in the mid-20th century, this powerful vessel spent decades serving on the Odra River and the Szczecin Maritime Waterway.
Its main mission was to break thick ice sheets during harsh winters, preventing dangerous ice jams and floods. With its strong, reinforced hull and a design built to withstand extreme pressure, "Niedźwiedź" became a symbol of reliability and safety for local navigation.
Although newer and more modern ships have taken over its duties today, "Niedźwiedź" remains an important part of Poland's maritime history and a true legend of the winter fleet.
