Description

Mercybleat did not belong with the others.

He stood among them on the same shelf, stitched from the same strange hands, with the same button eyes, patched seams, and unsettling silence. At first glance, no one could tell the difference between Mercybleat and the rest of the Cute Little Evil Things.

But he was different.

While the others waited for darkness to play their cruel little games, Mercybleat watched the doors, the windows, and the sleeping children. He listened for the faint scratching of Stitchwick, the quiet footsteps of Patchflame, the soft bell of Woolgrim, and the tapping of Patchwick in the dark.

And when they came too close, Mercybleat moved first.

People who survived the night often spoke of strange little things they could never explain — a window found mysteriously locked, a bedroom door gently shut, a nightmare interrupted by the sound of something small falling to the floor. Sometimes a child would wake to find their blanket pulled higher around them, or a toy turned to face the corner as if it had been caught in the act.

No one ever saw Mercybleat do it.

But sometimes, just before something terrible was about to happen, his tiny stitched body would no longer be where it had been left.

The others hated him for it.

He was too soft to fight them.

Too small to stop them forever.

But still, every night, Mercybleat tried.

They say if one of the Cute Little Evil Things has entered your home, you should look carefully at the shelf before going to sleep. If Mercybleat is sitting with his head lowered and his scarf slightly turned, you still have a chance.

It means he has seen what is coming.

And he is trying to warn you.

Because Mercybleat is not the monster under the bed.

He is the one standing between it and you.
