Description

I ordered some LED 16x16 panels, which arrived a few days ago, and thought I’d design another LED lamp to put above my printers so when they are printing the sign/lamp is on. While designing it I though I’d make it customizable for people to either keep my original logo or make one themselves or keep the blank one

Lately I’ve been playing with imbedding magnets into prints. With this in mind I thought I’d imbed the magnet into the logo (diffuser) so that it is quick and easy to swap out.

I made the lamp into fewer parts than my previous project. Front, middle and back.

-Front (Logo,sign,diffuser) can be what ever you like as I’ve added a blank diffuser if you want it plain or the original one ‘3D Printing in progress’ or put your own design on it. The logo has 4 voids in the print so you can do a filament change when you reach the top of the void which stops the print and then you just push the magnet in and then resume the print. The magnets are 6mmx3mm round.

-Middle for an air gap so that the LEDs aren’t too close to the front, a little depth to keep the lamp upright and 4 flat hex head screws that the magnets hold onto. These screws can’t be stainless, as it won’t work.

-Back holds all the electronics and LEDs. This way it is very easy to wire and modify if needed. I couldn’t help myself and I put the open Source logo on the back so to break up it being so plain. Turned out better than I though. I decided that I wouldn’t have the Arduino Nano accessible from the outside because once I found the sketch that I liked I would never change it. You can still get to the Nano if you unscrew the back. The electronics I used were an Arduino Nano, LM2596 DC-DC Buck converter, tactile button, DC Jack, WS2812B 16x16 LED panel. Hardware was 4x M3 6mm flat hex screws and 4x M3 6mm round head.

The filaments I used were Prusa Galaxy Black, 3DFillies Black and 3DFillies Marble. All PLA. Total print size is 200mm x 180mm

I used Joe Casha’s (3D Maker Noob) Youtube video to base the electronics off but I used different LED’s. You can still use some of the FastLED sketches but I went with the NoisePlusPalette one as they are meant for this type of LED. I added the tactile button in even though I’m not using it just incase some one wanted it. This is the original video
