Wendell Vaughn is an Earth-born operative who rose to prominence as the cosmic hero Quasar after demonstrating his unique ability to wield the Quantum Bands, ancient alien artifacts that grant immense control over energy and light. Initially an agent-in-training for S.H.I.E.L.D., he was dismissed as unfit for combat due to his lack of aggression. However, during a crisis at a research facility, he donned the Quantum Bands to protect others and discovered that his calm and flexible mindset allowed him to master their volatile energies. He adopted the codenames Marvel Boy and later Marvel Man, before being chosen by the cosmic entity Eon to become the next Protector of the Universe.
