Parametric Storage Bin
Print Profile(1)

Description

This model is a fully parametric OpenSCAD storage bin intended for workshops,
desks, maker spaces, and any environment where small parts, tools, or supplies
need reliable containment. Rather than shipping a fixed size, the design exposes
its geometry through the Customizer so you can tune footprint, wall build,
internal layout, and finishing details in minutes, then export STL for FDM or
resin printing without touching the source code. The result is a single file that
scales from a compact desk caddy to a multi-cell Gridfinity module while keeping
wall thickness, clearances, and feature proportions coherent.
Footprint control is dual-mode. In custom mode you set outer width, depth, and
height directly in millimeters. In Gridfinity mode the outer size is derived from
unit counts on a 42 mm pitch with body clearance applied for standard socket fit,
and the base automatically switches to a reference foot profile with chamfered
tapers, a straight middle land, and tunable segment heights for advanced calibration.
The shell separates wall thickness from floor thickness, and corner style can be
square, soft, rounded, or industrial—with an explicit radius when rounded corners
are selected. When Gridfinity is active, corner radii follow the foot specification
so stacked bins and frames align predictably.
Bottom treatment is independent of the interior cavity. Choose a flat base for
maximum storage volume, a perimeter foot ring for airflow and reduced contact area,
or a cornered perimeter variant that leaves the center open while supporting the
shell at the edges. Perimeter feet expose inset, width, and height so you can match
printer squish and desk surfaces. The optional lid is a separate solid in preview:
skirt walls overlap the bin rim, top panel thickness and per-side clearance are
adjustable, and stackable mode cuts a mating pocket on the lid top so another bin
can nest vertically with controlled clearance and minimum shell thickness under the
recess. Internal dividers can span width and depth independently, with count,
thickness, and maximum height capped to usable inner volume.
Organization and identification are first-class features. Shallow label recesses
can be cut into the bin front and on the lid—on the top face or the front skirt—
with shared recess depth, corner radius, and positional offsets. A raised top rim
option stiffens the opening lip without narrowing the usable cavity when configured
carefully. For aesthetics and ventilation, exterior wall patterns include plain,
ribbed, perforated, honeycomb, diamond, and vertical slots; each mode exposes
feature size, spacing, cut depth, and vertical start and end margins. Pattern
generation respects a keepout zone around the bin label so decorative cutouts do
not collide with identification areas.
Lid-top indentations add optional grip or visual branding in oval, rounded rectangle,
stadium, diamond, or rim styles, with independent width, depth, cut depth, center
position, and corner radius. Hidden parameters handle preview spacing between bin
and lid, curve resolution for rounded geometry, and label keepout margins used by
the wall-pattern logic. Derived dimensions resolve inner cavities, lid outer sizes,
stack recess depths, and export lift for Gridfinity so the lowest contact face sits
at Z=0 when sliced. Whether you are standardizing a parts bin wall, prototyping a
labeled drawer insert, or printing a stackable Gridfinity cell, this model is built
to iterate quickly and print cleanly from a single parametric source.
