Description

Summary

This is a replacement spool for Ryobi 18V & 40V auto feed trimmers. Specifically, I made this for a Ryobi 18V model P2008VNM. This is designed to replace the spool for 0.80" line. Can come in handy if you've lost a spool or just want to make some spools using your own roll of trimmer line instead of buying the pre-loaded spools.

 

Design Notes:
I designed the part fully in Fusion 360 and split it up into 3 parts for printing to limit the number of supports required. I've included screenshots of how the parts should be oriented in the slicer. Only the part named “bottom” should require supports. It is as close to identical to the original as I could get it. I'm very happy with it.

The original part is made of PA6-GF30, although I believe this should print and work fine in PETG, ASA, ABS, or even PLA (keep in mind the low glass transition temp of PLA in regards to your usage and environment).

 

Printing:

I printed at 0.2mm and used supports on the bottom part as shown in the slicer screenshots. Supported sections are highlighted in green. You could probably just let your slicer do auto supports, or add them manually if you want more control.

The top and middle parts will print fine without supports.

 

Assembly:

I've included an assembly graphic to show how the parts fit together. Just apply a glue to the mating surfaces that's appropriate for the filament you are printing with, and it should be plenty strong enough.

I printed the test part in PLA and used cyanoacrylate (CA) glue on the mating surfaces and the resulting part is very strong. I've trimmed my yard with it twice and so far and haven't had any issues with it.

Included are 3 parts (bottom, middle, top), as well as a single full part.
