Description

Low Poly Spheres: Low-poly, high-fun!

Low Poly Spheres is a series 3D printable models of polyhedra that look like low-poly spheres. You may remember from math class that polyhedra are solid 3D shapes with flat polygonal faces, straight edges, and sharp corners or vertices. Low Poly Spheres are fun to make and display. You can print them in different colors and sizes, and use them as decorations, toys, or educational tools. Low Poly Spheres are a fun way to enjoy 3D printing and mathematics. They are simple, yet beautiful and fascinating.

Icosahedron - Fun Facts

An icosahedron is a 3D shape with 20 faces, all of which are triangles. It is one of the five Platonic solids, which are the most symmetrical and regular polyhedra. The name icosahedron comes from the Greek words for “twenty” and “seat”. Here are some fun facts about icosahedrons:

  • The regular icosahedron has 30 edges and 12 vertices, where five triangles meet at each vertex.
  • The regular icosahedron is the “roundest” of the Platonic solids, because it has the smallest difference in volume between itself and its circumscribed sphere.
  • The vertices of a regular icosahedron form three golden rectangles, which are rectangles with the golden ratio of length to width.
  • There are also star-shaped icosahedra, such as the great icosahedron, which has intersecting triangular faces and a pentagram at each vertex.
  • Icosahedra are found in nature, such as in some viruses, crystals, and minerals. They are also used in art, architecture, games, and sports.
