Description

The Everything Winder

Need to wind something? This tool will do it for you.

Motivation

I was not happy with the idea of building an extra tool to rewind filament-spools. At least if the tool can't be used for other things as well. I also wanted something motorized without a crank or something. It was important to me that everything fits together easily and is easy to print.

The design should also be modular, so that the individual parts can be reused for other projects. Theoretically, it can also be used to build an automated clothesline or something like that ;-)

So the idea of the "Everything-Winder" was born. In fact, much more came out of it. The moving motor mount could also be used as a drive for other things.

It was also important to me that there is freedom in assembling and that the Everything Winder can be integrated well. With the use of the 20x20 profile, I think I succeeded. For example, if you built your 3D printer rack with 20x20 profiles, you could mount it directly to it.

In addition, the design allows for different attachments to be used.

3rdparty-stuff you will need:

  • 1x Nema 17 Stepper Motor
  • 20x20 aluminium profile with i.e. 50cm length
  • 2 bearings of type 6301-2RS
  • some m3 threaded inserts, Best you get a pack of 50 for a couple bugs from AliExpress
  • a stepper driver, I used a DRV8825
  • a nodemcu_v3, esp32 or arduino etc.
  • some m3 screws with between 12mm and 25mm
  • a compatible stepper driver control-shield
  • IMPORTANT: a beer and some motivation to tinker :-)

Printing and Assembly:

It is effortless and self-explaining. You will need to print 2 items of the bearing-housing to fully assemble. There is also enough tolerance on all parts that everything should easily fit together.

Can you post the design file for remixing?

Hi Asalas88! I'm currently ramping up a website for hosting my CAD files. Which part would you be interested to remix? The axis and toolholder?

Replying to @extrawitz :
Mostly I wanted to change the bearing to 608 since that's what I have in stock

I was asked why I don't provide wiring diagrams and source-code -Reason: Because I can't provide support to more than the 3D models. Suggestion: Challenge yourself in your spare time in the Christmas holidays, you will be proud to have learned something and I can promise overall it is not complicated to achieve results with this. Modeling took me roughly 18 hours. Wiring took me 20 minutes... Go for it! extrawitz
