Description

This is a fully Parametric Gravity Latch designed for garden gates and fences. Unlike standard store-bought hardware, this model can be customized to fit your specific wood dimensions perfectly. It is a minimalist, reliable, and "overbuilt" mechanical closure that uses gravity to keep your gate securely shut without the need for springs or complex parts that rust over time.

Parametric Features

Using the "Customize" button, you can adjust the model to your specific needs:

• Beam Width: Adjust it to your post/gate thickness (I recommend adding 2-4mm of clearance for wood expansion).
• Latch Length & Height: Customize the overall scale of the mechanism.
• Bolt Hole Diameter: Set it to fit your specific hardware (M4, M6, M8, etc.).

Print Settings & Profile

I have uploaded a dedicated Print Profile with the optimized settings for this mechanical part:

• Orientation: The part is pre-oriented for maximum structural strength (avoiding layer shearing during impact).
• Durability: Configured with 5-6 walls (perimeters) to make it virtually indestructible.
• Material: ASA or PETG is highly recommended for outdoor use. Avoid PLA as it will warp under direct sunlight.
• Aesthetic: I’ve enabled "Fuzzy Skin" (0.1mm thickness / 0.2mm distance) to give the part a professional forged steel texture and hide layer lines.

Installation Instructions

1. Measure your wooden post and gate gap.
2. Customize the parameters and generate your STL.
3. Print using the provided high-strength profile.
4. Mount the latch on the gate or post using a single sturdy bolt or screw through the pivot hole.
5. Ensure the latch can swing freely. A drop of lubricant or outdoor grease on the bolt can make the action even smoother.
