Description

Mini Spool - 250g

A simple, easy-to-print reusable spool designed to hold up to 250g of filament. It’s perfect for transferring the remaining filament from larger spools once they start running low, helping you save storage space and stay organised.

I often end up with several 1kg spools that only have 250g left or less, patiently waiting to be useful for a future project while taking up valuable storage space. Instead of keeping these bulky spools around, you can transfer the remaining filament to this compact 250g spool and free up room for new materials.

This is especially useful if you like to keep lots of colours on hand but don’t use filament quickly enough to finish full spools.

Assembly

The spool prints in three parts:

  • Main body
  • End plate
  • Lock piece

The spool uses a twist-lock design for quick assembly.

  1. Insert the end plate onto the main body.
  2. Rotate the end plate ⅓ turn clockwise to lock it into place.
  3. Secure the assembly using the lock piece, attached with either:
    • M2 × 8mm hex screw + heat-set insert, or
    • M3 × 8mm screw (self-tapping).

Loading Filament

Several loading options are included to give you flexibility:

  • Two 2mm holes to anchor the filament securely.
  • A 4mm through-hole that allows the filament to simply pull free when it runs out — ideal for AMS Lite setups.

Features

  • Holds up to 250g of filament
  • Easy to print
  • No supports required
  • Uses only ~67g of filament to print
  • Twist-lock assembly with an additional locking feature
  • AMS Lite compatible – inner diameter matches standard Bambu Lab spools, so no adapters are required.

Printability

The design has been optimized to print reliably and easily, with no supports or difficult features. It’s also a great way to make practical use of older or lower-quality filament while producing a useful tool that helps reduce clutter in your filament storage.

The examples in the photos were printed using Generic unbranded PLA Basic in Yellow and Green
