Description
This is a scaled-down version of the calculation section of Charles Babbage's Difference Engine No2. Babbage's Engine, designed in in the 1840's, was fully completed by the London Science Museum in 2002. The original is capable of computing 7th-order polynomials to 31 digits; this 3d-printed Engine is capable of computing 3rd-order polynomials to 4 digits. I designed this over the course of about 8 months for my mechanical engineering senior thesis. Attached is the portion of my thesis that documents how to assemble the Engine. Plans for the full Engine, as well as the technical description and user guide, are available through the London Science Museum. Enjoy!
