Description

I designed this softbox because I wanted to achieve round catchlights in the eyes of my subjects while maintaining soft, even lighting. By using Bambu Lab Jade White, the light temperature stays around 6500K. I suppose you could swap colors though if you want to explore tinted translucent filaments for color gel effects. I utilized an Archimedean Chords pattern to help scatter the light evenly; I have included an image that shows how well the light diffuses across the 0.8mm white panel.

The spacing from the diffuser to the flash head is approximately 80mm, which appears to be adequate when using a wide zoom setting on your flash. The black elements are thick enough to avoid light escaping through the sides.

Compatibility

From my testing, this should work on a variety of Godox or Flashpoint (Adorama branded) models. These include:

  • Godox V860II, V850II, TT685, TT600
  • Likely many others with similar head dimensions like the Canon 580EX / 580EX II and the Yongnuo YN560 series because they share a nearly identical head shape

I am only able to test the Flashpoint Zoom Li-Ion R2 TTL (which is the Godox V860II model) as that is what I have on hand. I hope this works well for others.

Design Notes

I decided not to add a stopper on the head attachment ring. This allows you to push it further onto your flash head for a tighter friction fit if needed. However, the ring is sized so that on both flashes I tested, it stops right at the start of the flash lens element.

Printing Tips

  • Filament Swap: If you do not have an AMS, you can use a pause on the 5th layer to switch from white to black filament.
  • Iterations: I have printed this with transparent PETG as well for the front element to increase output. However, it does not have the soft light effect like the white does.
