Description

This egg is a decoration, a puzzle box, and an geometric wonder!

The egg has 8 layers which can rotate relative to each other to create different patterns.  It also has an internal cylinder that can be removed if the correct sequence of patterns is aligned on the outside of the egg. The space inside the cylinder is more than enough to hide money, coins, or small presents.

Sizing: I recommend printing the egg parts at 75% of their original size (as shown in the 3MF file) so that you can print multiple layers on a single bed to minimize color change waste.

Flushing (optional): You can flush filament into the interior cylinder and support pegs on each bed during color swaps to minimize color change waste. This will give the bottom of the cylinder a striped appearance, but it is inside the egg so you will rarely see it.

AMS: The STLs and 3MF files are set up to easily allow you to print the stripes on the outside of the egg in a different color. Alternatively, it might be fun to print the egg parts in all white and then color them in with paint!

Support: All parts should be able to be printed with support, but egg layer 1 has a concave interior that may benefit from support, depending on your printer's settings.

Assembly: Video of egg assembly here: https://youtu.be/LWjb8fJeZkc

Additional Requirements: You will need four 8mm long M3 bolts to assemble the layers…or some very strong gel glue!

Filament/Time: This print will require 3 different batches (0.2 mm layer height, no support):

Batch 1 = Layers 1-4 + interior cylinder = 9.5 hrs + 185g filament 1 + 55g filament 2

Batch 2 = Layers 5-8 + support pegs = 12 hrs + 238g filament 1 + 50g filament 2

Batch 3 = Interior capsule = 1 hr + 33g filament 1
