Description
The Eurofighter Typhoon (literally: "Euro-fighter typhoon") is a multirole fighter, twin-engine, highly maneuverable aircraft, designed and built by the consortium of European companies Eurofighter GmbH, created in 1983 and composed of Airbus Group, BAE Systems and Alenia Aeronautica. It made its first flight on March 27, 1994, entering service on April 8, 2003 with Germany. Its design with a delta wing-cantilever configuration resembles that of other European combat aircraft, such as the Dassault Rafale, from France, and the Saab 39 Gripen, from Sweden. It was designed emphasizing agility, stealth capabilities, and the inclusion of advanced avionics systems, making it one of the best fourth-generation fighters in service at the time of its launch. Faced with the emergence of fifth-generation combat aircraft, an upgrade program called Long Term Evolution is under development, aiming to extend its capabilities and service life.
