Description

3DBenchy: The Classic 3D Printing Benchmark

Meet the 3DBenchy—the undisputed champion of 3D printing, the ultimate torture test, and the most famous little tugboat on the internet.

Whether you just unboxed your new Bambu Lab printer or you're dialing in a brand-new roll of filament, the Benchy is the perfect first print. It is specifically designed to test and calibrate your 3D printer's capabilities, from bridging and overhangs to stringing and dimensional accuracy. Plus, it makes a fantastic desk mascot when it's done!

Why Print This Profile?

  • Dialed-In Settings: This print profile has been thoroughly tested and optimized for a flawless, fast print right out of the box.
  • Zero Supports Needed: The Benchy is designed to print beautifully without any support material.
  • Quick Print Time: Perfect for a fast calibration run before committing to a multi-hour project.

🖨️ Recommended Print Guidelines

  • Layer Height: 0.2mm (Standard) or 0.16mm (High Quality)
  • Infill: 10% - 15% (Grid or Gyroid)
  • Wall Loops: 2 to 3
  • Supports: NONE. (Using supports defeats the purpose of the benchmark!)
  • Brim: Not required for most PEI/textured plates, but use a skirt to purge the nozzle.
  • Filament: PLA, PETG, or ABS (PLA is highly recommended for standard bench-marking).

What is the Benchy Testing?

If you're new to the Benchy, here is what this little boat is testing on your machine:

  • The Hull: Checks for smooth extrusion and cooling.
  • The Cabin Windows: Tests bridging and stringing.
  • The Smokestack: Tests for concentricity and minimum layer time (cooling on small features).
  • The Steering Wheel: Tests fine details and micro-retractions.
  • The Nameplate (Rear): Tests high-resolution letter embossing.
