Description

I’ve always liked my IKEA Skadis board, but most bins available online require support for the hooks. On top of that, they are often printed upright, meaning the hooks are not aligned with the strongest print orientation, making them more prone to breaking.

With this design, I focused on optimizing the print orientation of the hooks for maximum strength. To achieve this while keeping the model fully parametric, I opted for a print-in-place, foldable design.

Why not print it in multiple parts ? Because I wanted to maximize strength. Multi-part designs with snap-fit joints can weaken over time or come loose. That’s why this model uses a single, robust snap joint, resulting in a sturdy and reliable bin.

Printing

The model is designed to be printed flat on the build plate in its unfolded state. It works well with most materials, and the overall size is only limited by your printer’s build volume.

Parameters

There are 5 adjustable parameters that allow you to customize your bin:

  • Height and width are unitless values corresponding to the spacing on the Skadis board
    (1 = 40 mm, 2 = 80 mm, etc.)
  • The other parameters are in mm

Please note: extreme parameter values may cause the parametric model to fail.

Enjoy !
