Description

Overview

This is the Second Generation (V2) of my oil filter wrench, redesigned from the ground up for better fitment and durability. Based on feedback from my previous 87mm version, I’ve refined the geometry to create a tool that's both stronger and more precise.

Key Improvements in V2:

  • Precision Fit (86.7mm): Reduced diameter from 87mm to 86.7mm to ensure a perfectly snug fit. No more slipping or rounding off the plastic housing!
  • 1/2" Square Drive: Replaced the old 24mm hex with a direct 1/2-inch ratchet drive socket.
  • Increased Depth: The internal profile is now deeper, allowing the tool to seat fully onto the oil filter cap for maximum grip.
  • Reinforced Core: Optimized for high-torque applications (standard 25.5Nm).

Compatibility

Precision-engineered for the 86.7mm 16-flute housing found in many modern German engines:

  • BMW Engines: N20, N26, N51, N52, N54, N55, N63, S55, S63.
  • Common Models: 1, 3, 5, 7 Series, X1, X3, X5, X6 (approx. 2006–present).
  • Volvo: Fits most 2.4L and 2.5L engine filter housings.

Tested Print Settings:

  • Material: PETG is the minimum recommended material due to its chemical and heat resistance.
  • Wall Loops: 6 (Essential for the strength of the 1/2" drive socket).
  • Infill: 25% Gyroid (Provides excellent structural rigidity).
  • Top/Bottom Layers: 5 (For a solid, durable finish).
  • Supports: Yes (Recommended for the internal 86.7mm cavity if printed with the square drive facing up).
