Description

This is a high quality Easter egg that can be used as a gift, gift box, night light, or Easter decoration.

The egg is 150mm high and 100mm in diameter (excluding the stand). The stand is 80mm high. Combined it is 200mm high.

Features include:

  • It is beautifully designed, both exterior and interior, with many optional accessories and customisation opportunities.
  • An egg can stand by itself or sit on an optional stand, having a snug, stable fit.
  • Optional internal tea light holder works as a night light, accepting the light oriented up or down.
  • Optional internal platform for including your own artworks.
  • Optional example gem and gem holder as internal artwork.
  • Can be printed either as single colour or two-colour, two plates provided.
  • The shell halves connect magnetically or optionally using simple 3D printed pins.
  • Easy to print, PLA Basic and no supports.
  • No AMS is needed (if printing a single coloured egg).

The stand is optional as the egg has a subtle flat bottom and is stable by itself.

If you print the gem and gem holder, consider using glue to keep the parts together.

If you are using the internal platform (for your own artwork or for the example gem) note that it is printed face down. That is, when assembled the internal platform has the build plate surface facing up. The platform has many small nubs on the outside rim.  They fit between the raised cords on the inside of the egg.

If you like the little Easter chicks in the photos, the model is here on Maker World. If you print the Easter chicks, then you can fit two loose in an egg or glue one to the optional internal platform.

If you are printing the light holder I recommend using a white or clear filament. The light holder will accept the standard LED tea light either up or down which gives two different lighting effects. Printing the egg in a light coloured filament is recommended.

If you use the egg stand you will see the stand ring has many small nubs on the inside. They fit between the raised cords on the outside of the egg, making the fit snug and stable. When you place an egg in its stand, you may need to rotate the egg until it moves into place to get a firm fit.

Assembly of the egg requires either magnets or 3D printed pins to be inserted in the shell walls. Here are the instructions.

  • Magnets: You need 8 of 4mm x 2mm round rare earth magnets (available from Bambu Lab Store and elsewhere). The egg shells are designed so that the magnets are a press-fit, not requiring glue. You can use glue if you like. I recommend inserting the magnets first into the base, all having the same polarity. I use a string of magnets all stuck together and insert them one at a time, checking the polarity as I go. Next place the four magnets for the top shell onto the magnets already inserted in the base shell. Then press the top onto the base so the top magnets are inserted with the correct polarity.
  • Pins: You will need 4 pins, available on one of the provided plates. The pins are tapered so should be a tight fit in one shell and a looser fit in the other. The end on the build plate is the looser fitting end. I recommend inserting the pins into the top shell so that the pins are tight in the top. I.e., the build-plate surface of the pins should face down.

In the photos, the pink egg uses pins. All others use magnets.

Note that the magnets and tea light listed in the bill of materials are optional.

This model has many options and features. There are numerous little design features in the model to make it high quality - most you won't even notice 😊. I hope you enjoy it.

Happy printing… happy Easter!
