Description

Snapmaker U1 Screen Hinge Mod

This little mod relocates and hinges the Snapmaker U1 screen to improve readability and usability. The hinge allows the display to tilt for a better viewing angle.

The hinge design could probably be improved further. I originally tried to keep the profile as low as possible, and while the hinge isn’t perfect, it works well enough for my setup.

For best results, print the screen holder face-down with supports. You can print it standing and the overhangs are ok, just the hinge gets a little wonky, personal preference really. I’ve uploaded a Bambu profile that I test printed successfully using PLA on a P1S, but the version I actually used was printed on the Snapmaker using PETG as the supports as it's so easy to remove.

Assembly

  1. Place two M3 nuts into the base plate.
  2. Attach the hinge bracket using the two M3 × 6 mm screws.
  3. Install the screen onto the screen plate feeding the ribbon cable through. Use adessive if necessary.
  4. Connect the 100mm FPC cable to the screen now.
  5. Insert two captive nuts into the screen plate hinge section.
  6. Assemble the hinge pieces together by Insert the two M3 × 16 mm screws through the sides of the hinge.
  7. Tighten the screws to your desired hinge stiffness.
  8. Attach the faceplate to the Snapmaker using double-sided tape as well. You could use glue, but tape allows the mod to be removed later with a bit of effort.
  9. Use the FPC extension board and use tape to secure where the old screen connected and connect the screen back up.

Screen Removal Guide
