Description

Corners for making matchstick models of platonic solids + archimedian solids.

Just printing the plate is not helpful. You need to duplicate the corner of the model you want to make.

The numbering in the following list corresponds to the numbers in the attached image of the print plate in the .3mf file.

  1. Tetrahedron. Print 4 corners, join with 6 matchsticks.
  2. Octahedron. Print 6 corners, join with 12 matchsticks.
  3. Icosahedron. Print 12 corners, join with 30 matchsticks.
  4. Cube. Print 8 corners, join with 12 matchsticks.
  5. Dodecahedron. Print 20 corners, join with 30 matchsticks.
  6. Truncated tetrahedron. Print 12 corners, join with 18 matchsticks.
  7. Cuboctahedron. Print 12 corners, join with 24 matchsticks.
  8. Truncated cube. Print 24 corners, join with 36 matchsticks.
  9. Truncated octahedron. Print 24 corners, join with 36 matchsticks.
  10. Rhombicuboctahedron. Print 24 corners, join with 48 matchsticks.
  11. Truncated cuboctahedron. Print 24 of each of 11a and 11b. Join with 72 matchsticks.
  12. Snub hexahedron. Print 24 corners, join with 60 matchsticks.
  13. Icosidodecahedron. Print 30 corners, join with 60 matchsticks.
  14. Truncated dodecahedron. Print 60 corners, join with 90 matchsticks.
  15. Truncated icosahedron. Print 60 corners, join with 90 matchsticks.
  16. Rhombicosidodecahedron. Print 60 corners, join with 120 matchsticks.
  17. Truncated icosidodecahedron. Print 60 of each of 17a and 17b. Join with 180 matchsticks.
  18. Snub dodecahedron. Print 60 corners, join with 150 matchsticks.

It is recommended to print the corners with some brim to ensure bed adhesion.

Also, place them close enough to let the brims merge, this improves the adhesion further.

Attached screenshot of my print of number 16, to show merged brims.
Diassembly og the parts from the brim may take a little work.

I used a 3mm outer brim, and standard settings otherwise.

The order of the platonic solids is triangles-squares-pentagons, and sub-ordering is number of vertices.

For the archimedian solids, the order is as on the wikipedia page.

Number 12 and number 18 are chiral. Each can be built in 2 versions, one being the mirror image of the other.

Some of the corners look quite similar at first glance, but they are not the same, and cannot be interchanged.

All solids have been built successfully.
