Description

It's planting season!

TIP: Use a cotton pad in the bottom of each pot to keep the dirt from spilling into the bottom tray!

This is a new version of a design I made and tested last season. Turned out to work great.

The assembly consists of the following parts:

Bottom Tray:

This is the main part which holds water. It has guides for the pots and slots for the connecting beams.
It should have enough solid bottom layers to avoid any infill. Just to make sure it's completly watertight.

Connecting Beam:

This is the part that supports the top plate. You will need 4 of these

Pot:

This is the pot itself. It consists of two parts that snap together. PLA seems to hold
up pretty good for this part, but PETG or ABS might be a better choice.

Top Plate:

This parts connects to the bottom tray with the four beams and holds the pots

Greenhouse Dome:

This is a clear cover which provides a warm and humid environment for the seedlings.
This part is provided in a separate print profile and should be printed in clear PETG or PC:

— OPTIONAL ---

Dirt Funnel:

The funnel makes it easier to fill the pots with dirt

The Pestle:

Use this to gently pack the dirt.

Takes a while to print, but the outcome is worth it. Starting on my third set now for my wife. Edited: Just added a photo of the sets so far. All printed in ABS

I just went with the normal ABS profile for Bambu Labs, but I did put a brim on the funnels since there isn't much contact area with the plate. (I printed one batch without it, but one of them tipped over at the very end). Then just made sure I had a clean plate and everything stuck without issues. I put all the green items on one plate and then all the black items (colors based on my print) on another and was able to print the whole thing in just two plates.

I ran out of filament partway through my print and ended up with something amazing. Now I'm trying to figure out how to swap filament mid-layer on purpose, lol Fantastic model btw, made five of these already. Printing all opaque parts on a single plate and the cap as a second, follow-up plate.

Play with the paint option in the slicer. Paint by layer is fun.

Slice your model, go to the layer you want to change, right click on the layer slider and then select change filament

I printed the lower parts in PLA+ and the top on Bambu PETG translucent. this sits under full spectrum lights inside to start seeds

printed great! if I had to give some constructive feedback, it would be that the seed pods could use a pull out tab or some kind of removal mechanism to make pulling them out of the tray easier when in use.

maybe some dog ears on the top of each half or if they were quarter of an inch taller maybe so there was a slight lip between them and the base but that is my least favorite option honestly, ocd lol. either way great model!!

Maybe similar to oneeighityseven said with the dog ears but in a "slip ring" separate part that you would insert the pod into before inserting the pod into the stand so that the pods can still print the same way (I had to use a brim on the pods too, one or two would always come loose from the bed and wreck the print without a brim).

Great model it prints really well and the tolerances are just perfect. I printed mine in PETG on 0.2 layers and managed to reduce the print time a little too.
