Description

In early spring of 2023, I built a small Indy / Jock Lindsey's Hangar Bar themed bar in our basement storage area turned unfinished game room. As of mid-April 2023 I started to ask around on the internet looking for a Dial of Destiny / Archimedes Antikythera Mechanism to put with some other Indy props behind the bar. At the time there wasn't much available, a few people in the early stages of planning and one great-looking build on a Facebook group I wasn't able to get access to in order to try to buy. Maybe I didn't meet the height requirements.

I'm an R&D engineer (mostly software but some hardware repair and design) but pretty novice in 3d-modeling. I did, however capture screen recordings of the majority of the creation process in Shapr3D and through a number of stream-of-consciousness forum posts.

Full build journal on arcadeshenanigans.com blog post.

I've recently been working to clean up the file structure on this listing so as to make things a little more accessible and less confusing. If you've previously started a print, fear not.. those original models are still available over on Github:

Initial Tinkering / Timelapse:

Design Notes

I started this based on the trailers, screenshots and rumors. The initial build separated the design into a Box, a Floor and then a stack of components that get added. The original compass stack was held together essentially by the compression / tension of the compass-post through the compass face and and squeezed together the dials.

Around father's day 2023 I started getting better screenshots and, well…

Octagon vs Hexagon

Early notes from strangers-on-the-internet and my programmers' confirmation bias towards multiples of eight led me to believe the prop would be an octagon. Based on newer trailer stills, I've updated to model to be a hexagon. Big oops!

Early June 2023 Update - Starting to make some improvements to the box dimensions to more closely match the proportions seen in various sources

Mid June 2023 Update - Making an attempt at building the outer and inner ring Glyph details. These will be either cutouts that can be glued together with a solid color backing print based on the original inner and outer rings -or - two color prints optimized for minimal color swaps.

Mid June 2023 Update - making an attempt at adding a decorated glyph disc for the bottom of the assembly. I'm basing the designs, loosely on the trailer screenshot of the melted-wax enclosure of an object and some extrapolation (planets & astrology).

Mid JUNE 2023 Update - I've since added the mark-2 box, codenamed “fatty” - which is a little closer in proportions to the screen model, I think.

Late June 2023 Update - Split Build

A day away from finally getting to see Ford's last outing as Indy.

Based on the Premiere photos, I've taken a couple stabs at breaking the box-assembly up into two parts in order to be consistent with the film prop.
Mid July Notes (7/9/2023)

I think the Mark3 build is probably close enough to start sharing with the community, though I haven't completed a print out of this build quite yet so there may be slight tweaks, still. I should have my own Mark3 test print done this weekend. (July 9th)

If you were printing out of the older split-build or 220mm folder, those folders are over on Github:

https://github.com/graffitilogic/3dPrintStuff/tree/main/Indy/DoD/Legacy%20Builds%20and%20Prototypes

I've started to clean up the file structure here so the model isn't as intimidating to folks. The Mark2 folder is more or less the old 220 folder.

Mark3.5 Box Changes with Side Plate Details
I'm not 100% sure on the side plate details because it seems like there may be some differences in the Disney Parks prop and the film prop but I gave it the old college try.
