Description

The Liberator is a historic single-shot pistol design, originally released in May 2013 by Defense Distributed as the world's first widely available fully 3D-printable firearm blueprint. Named after the WWII-era FP-45 Liberator (a simple OSS/ resistance drop gun), it became a landmark in discussions about digital rights, code as speech, 3D printing technology, and gun regulation.

This upload is a non-functional replica / display prop only.

  • No working firing mechanism included
  • Intended strictly for educational, historical, artistic, or collection purposes
  • Not designed or tested for any live ammunition use — attempting to modify for functionality may be illegal in most jurisdictions and is strongly discouraged

Key Specs (based on original design):

  • Overall length: ~216 mm (8.5 in)
  • Barrel length: ~64 mm (2.5 in)
  • Height: ~160 mm (6.3 in)
  • Chambered for .380 ACP

Printing Recommendations:

  • Material: PLA / PETG / ABS for durability (higher infill for strength if desired)
  • Layer height: 0.2 mm or finer for detail
  • Supports: Yes, especially for internal geometry
  • Scale: 100% for 1:1 replica; scale down for desk model

This design has sparked global debate since 2013 — from State Department takedown requests, to Pirate Bay hosting, DOJ settlements, court cases (including 9th Circuit rulings), and mentions by public figures. It symbolizes the intersection of open-source tech, freedom of information, and firearm policy. Files have circulated widely online for over a decade.

I'm sharing this file purely as an archivist / hobbyist for historical and educational interest. Sharing digital files like this is legal in many places as protected speech, but local laws on manufacturing or possessing functional firearms vary widely — always check your own regulations. No endorsement of misuse or violence is intended.
