Description

This is a mount for a Apple Touch ID Sensor into a wodden desk. I used a Magic Keyboard without numpad (has a more compact PCB). There are a couple of videos on how to harvest a sensor from a keyboard (be careful with the ribbon cable!).

The TouchID Sensor will be screwed into the “Sensor_Mount” with the original screws. To insert the sensor you need to gentle bend the four screw bridge to get the sensor underneath. Once its in place, bend it back and screw the sensor with the screws in place.

Next we need to install the “M18_Shell” onto the sensor mount. Therefor you need to add four M2 press-in-sleeves to the sensor mount. Carefully route the ribbon cable in the inside of the M18 shell. I recommend to add some glue to the ribbon cable at the TouchID sensor to de-stress the cable.

If you have secured everything you can screw a 18mm hole into your wodden desk at the desired position. Also you need to screw two holes for M3 screws to later screw the cover to the table. With the “Mounting_Plate” you can screw the Mounting_Plate from the bottom to the desk and with some extra two M2 press-in-sleeves to the M18_Shell.

For the two M3 holes for the cover, i printed a second cover where the M3 holes went through the complete part. This way i could put the cover ontop of the TouchID sensor and mark the position of the screw holes. Secure the “Cover” with two M3 screws from the bottom of the desk.

Last step is to print the housing for the PCB. Here you need two M2 press-in-sleeves for the PCB and two M2 press-in-sleeves for the Cover-Plate. If you screw the M2 screws for the first time into the PCB, there is some resistance. Dont worry, just screw them through, there is no electrical damage by doing this.

If the Box is screwed to the bottom of the desk, simply connect the ribbon cable, close the Box and connect it via lightning to your computer.
