Description

I came up with a printable gasket for 22L IKEA Samla boxes to reduce the frequency I have to bake the desiccant. As Samla boxes are not airtight humidity was raising above 20% after 1-2 months, even when not opening the box. With the gasket and clips the humidity stays way below 10% for months.

Features

  • Gasket printed in TPU (95A, 45g) to seal the gap between lid and box, by matching the shape of both
  • Leveraging the flexibility of TPU for a press fit in the lid not requiring any glue or tape
  • Tested with IKEA Samla boxes sold in 2023/2024 (those with a small clip to fix the lid to the box)
  • The built-in clips still work with this gasket
  • Stackable seal: No additional clips required for stacked boxes. The weight of the additional boxes will give a better seal than any clip
  • Most clips will still fit (ideal for top boxes)

Printing instructions

Print each plate once (slice all comes in handy) with TPU that has a shoreness of 95A. To enable friction fit the design has to match the chamfer of the lid, which in turn require supports on the first couple layers to print cleanly.

Assembly

Remove the supports and place each piece in the lid. Make sure that the gasket is below the clip and connect all pieces via the pins. The pins are 0.1mm bigger for a press fit.

Optional: You can add thin double sided tape in the middle of of the long sides, but for me this was not required.

Install gasket as shown in the lid

Thanks

Thanks to whomever created the CAD version of the Samla box. If it was you, write it down in the comments with a link to the original source. I was not able to find it.

2 already printed and done. After a few minutes the humidity inside the box decreases to 10. Works great! One piece always seem to separate when I try to get it off the bed. However, a dab of super glue fixes it. Thanks!

Passt perfekt!! Habe ich lange nach gesucht. Gute Arbeit. Hatte zwar ohne Ende Stringing, dass liegt aber eher an meinen TPU Einstellungen :(

Great job, are you also maybe thinking about making 78x56x43 cm/130L size?

if you can point me to a CAD model of the box, sure I could do that. Unfortunately, the lids of bigger boxes have quite a few nooks and crannies that are hard to measure manually.

Your design looks very good. But I have a 45 L IKEA Samla box. Is it possible for you to extend the gasket for 45 L boxes? According to IKEA, these are the dimensions: 56x39x28 cm

So far, I was not able to find a CAD model of the lid to get an accurate fit. The lid of the 45L box is quite different and has some features that are hard to get with manual measurements.

I think I saw the .step file from the 45L at grabcad.com.

Thank you for this model! I was wondering if the first photo shows the Trådförvarare for the 22 L Samla box? Seems unreleased ;) Do you mind sharing this one with us as well? I really like Your Trådförvarare for the 45 L Samla box!

The picture shows the spool holder from ThomaS. It is a lot sturdier, but requires more filament. I took the general idea of his design for the 45L version. I'll put your request into my backlog. Will do that as soon as I need another 22L spool holder. https://makerworld.com/en/models/130802#profileId-142895

Great! I needed to add some hot glue to the corners so they would stick.
