Description

While I was experimenting with trapezoidal threads I found out that this nut and bolt combination is quite a nice fidget toy.

The parts are easy to print without support but they need a layer height of 0.12mm or smaller. Otherwise the outside of the thread flanks is not supported by the underlying layer. Besides that I recommend 3 walls, 4 to 5 tops & bottoms and 15% infill.

EDIT 2024-03-24
astroyny wanted a longer bolt. So I added a 100mm bolt to the raw model files. Just exchange the original bolt in my print profile with this new, long bolt and use the same settings for printing. Please be advised: I did not test the long bolt.

i printed the 100mm version in blue-green bicolor silk PLA with .12 layer height, which came out really nice! The thread has relatively small tolerances but works right away without any grinding. Great model! :)

Amazing model. Works immediately without grinding. I printed it with a 0.12mm layer in the thread areas. The rest was printed with a layer height of 0.2mm. 2 Walls, 15% Infill

My son loves it! Please consider a version with a long thread on the bolt, current design = 40mm, say 100mm?

As you wish! You find a 100mm bolt under raw model files. Use the same settings as for the original bolt.

Is it possible to have this have looser tolerances so you can just flick it and it goes up and down?

When you play with it, the friction will decrease over time. Mine is spinning very well. Maybe - I have not tried it - you can loosen the tolerances if you scale the nut to 101% or 102%.
