Description

3d miniature of Calgary, Alberta, in Canada!

Check out my collection of other Canadian miniatures: https://makerworld.com/en/@jarvizar/collections/766210

Collection of all my miniatures: https://makerworld.com/en/@jarvizar/collections/146964

Model created in Blender using data primarily from the Blosm addon.

Slicing & Printing Details

This model was designed to be printed with a 0.4mm nozzle and 0.16mm layer heights.

Try using a 0.2mm nozzle (0.08mm layer heights) or scaling up for even finer detail!

Note: If roads or other small details disappear after slicing, try lowering the extrusion/line width of external perimeters (outer walls) closer to 0.4mm OR use Arachne walls. Can also try enabling “Detect Thin Walls”.

The included “Designer Profile” should have the above settings pre-applied and is ready to slice & print!

Filament used in photos: Sunlu Matte White (miniature), Bambu Matte Charcoal/Black (frame), Sunlu Sky Blue (water)

Framing Details

This model measures almost exactly 6.8in by 4.8in (170.5mm X 119.5mm) and should fit most 5x7 frames (assuming frame lip/overlap is around a quarter inch). Feel free to change the scale/size of the model(s) to meet your needs.

Personally I use these cheap frames from Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0C8HY7YSQ

And blue printer paper: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00006IDQT

I also included a fully printable frame (including a 1mm thick water plate) designed to fit all my miniature cities.

Gif of the Printable Frame

A frame is not required! This model looks great by itself and can be displayed almost anywhere.

Great model. Printed with a 0.2mm nozzle, 0.06mm layer height. Had some bed adhesion issues with the east side of Prince's Island so I had to really slow down the first layer and increase the line width (0.3mm) and thickness (0.15mm) of the first layer as well. Don't think this is the fault of the model, but when I sliced it, I got this weird artifact in the east portion of the river. It printed a bunch of strands in this area for a single layer as a result. They were easy to remove at least.

Thank you for the feedback! I especially appreciate the attached photos. I'm not sure what could cause that extra filament to be printed over the eastern part of the river, but I'll certainly investigate the model on my end and see if I can fix/improve it. I'm very interested to see what might be causing this lol. I'll probably try and clean up Prince's Island a bit for better bed adhesion overall as well. I'll most likely update this post with a v2 model once I get the chance 👍 Thanks again!

I am curious to which PLA are you using in your photos? It looks much better than the basic white bambu basic white PLA

I use Sunlu's matte white but I've heard Bambu's Matte white is just as good!

thanks you for your reply. I am surprised as it almost has a cream colour to it.

Amazing that Calgary got a model before places like Istanbul and Disneyland! Great choice of orientation to squeeze the Saddledome in the bottom right corner. Shame that won't be a part of the geography in a few years. I've got a 0.2mm hotend on the way and I'll definitely be testing it out with a couple of your landscapes.

Yeah Calgary was a lot of fun to make! I've been focusing on creating Canadian cities recently (mostly Edmonton, Calgary, and Winnipeg to start) and was especially happy with how Calgary turned out, so I decided to upload it early! Also good choice getting a 0.2mm nozzle! It definitely increases the print time by a decent amount, but honestly I think it makes a big difference in terms of overall quality. Let me know if you run into any issues!
